The story of Enna chekku

Enna chekku has always been a part of the south Indian culture throughout the years.

Made up of two words Ennai - (oil) & chekku (the wooden pestle, a simple machine that presses seeds to extract oil). Enna chekku was the commonly used word for oil mills.

Back in the days when India had just become independent, every village had its own Enna chekku (Oil Mill) which used to be a one stop destination for all the edible oil needs for all households.

The seeds grown from the farms were directly taken to the chekku (mill) where they were crushed with the help of a rotating machine pulled by the bullocks and the oil was given in a can, a model similar to the Atta Chakki (flour mill) which we can see these days
