Ingredients

Toor dal – 1/2 cup

Ubari Urad Dal – 1 tbsp

Shallots – 10

Tomato – 1

Green chili – 1

Tamarind – small marble-sized ball

Turmeric – 1/4 tsp

Sambar powder – 2 tsp

Hing – a pinch

Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

Curry leaves – few

Groundnut oil – 2 tbsp

Coriander – for garnish

Salt – to taste

Instructions

Pressure cook toor and urad dal with turmeric until soft. Mash well.

In a pan, heat oil. Temper mustard, curry leaves, and hing.

Add shallots, sauté till translucent. Add tomato and green chili.

Pour in tamarind water and sambar powder. Simmer for 5 mins.

Add mashed dal, salt. Adjust water for consistency. Simmer for 10 mins.

Garnish with coriander and serve with idli/dosa.
